Robert grew up on a farm/ranch in the Texas Panhandle in the small town of Shamrock and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock.Robert was born in Germany to a military family and moved a lot as a youngster, and has always had a love for travel, exploration, and adventure.
After graduating from Texas Tech with dual degrees in International Economics and Finance, he started in the hospitality industry as a Night Auditor and quickly moved to San Antonio and was an opening Credit Manager for the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. Eventually, the explorer and entrepreneur kicked in and he struck out on his own assisting hotel and resort properties across the country through challenging transitions and turnarounds. Worked primarily with Marriott and Ritz Carlton but expanded out to other management companies, assisting with management and ownership transitions. He also had served as the Chief Financial Officer of Horseshoe Bay Resort and opened the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt as the Director of Finance. Once he learned about the opportunity with Whim, Robert was sold on the vision, the team and the entrepreneurial spirit and culture of Whim Hospitality, and their owners Whit and Kim Hanks.
When he’s not crunching the numbers in his office at Whim he is spending time enjoying playing golf, sand volleyball, hiking, traveling or exploring his foodie tendencies with his wife of 31 years, Kelly. He and Kelly also get their thrills by love exploring new places with no agenda- just go and discover!
